Embracing Minimalism

Clothes, accessories, homeware, you name it; these days when it comes to pretty much anything I like to keep it minimal. No fuss. Back in the day I was a snazzy jumper enthusiast, and you would seldom find me without an oversized bag (filled to the brim) attached to my arm, however I can't get enough of clean cuts and simple detailing right now. There's something about simplicity that makes me feel a little more 'together'.. it's just so RIGHT.

If you've been reading my blog for some time, you will know by now that I am a serial organiser. Long gone are the days where I would hoard hundreds of the same t-shirt in my wardrobe and collect candles like they're going out of fashion, I have focused my attention on streamlining my possessions and focusing on quality rather than quantity. Note: minimalism is not just decluttering. Yes it is about being sparing when it comes to material possessions, focusing on how much you value each item; however it is also about being mindful. I made the decision at the start of the year to inject a little more 'mindfulness' into my life, and that is what I intend to continue doing throughout 2017.

When it comes to clothes and material bits and pieces, working in retail can prove to be OH SO TEMPTING. Imagine walking into work every day to see the snazzy new Topshop blouse of your dreams and then remembering that you have one almost identical from last season.. I'm not gonna lie, at first it was tough, but nowadays I find it a lot easier to resist and take pride in the fact that I have a wardrobe that I am almost happy with, made up of pieces that I would defo be willing to wear 99% of the time.

However, one thing that I find myself struggling with more often than not is homeware shopping. I don't even have my own home yet (although I am hoping that 2018 will be the birth of #Martha'sHouse) meaning that impulse buys of cute kitchenware are completely unnecessary; I think that because I get such joy out of interiors I feel the need to snap up every 'perfect' piece now incase I can't find something that I love just as much when it comes to decorating my own place. ALAS I have recently written myself a long list of things that I will need when the time comes, so I can tick things off and the temptation to keep buying will (hopefully) disappear.. you know I can't resist a list!

Not only am I embracing minimalism when it comes to material possessions, I am also still very on board with the whole hygge shabang. As much as I enjoy going out with friends and dancing til dawn (although it is very rare these days) I would definitely rather snuggle up on the sofa and embrace the little things. I thrive on the feeling of contentment that comes with being surrounded with the things that I love most, and that is what living a minimal life is all about.

  3. I think being a minimalist isn't just about having less stuff, but clearing a person's mind negativity. I don't know if I am correct in this way of thinking, but that's how I feel :)
