My Love/Hate Relationship with Houseplants

If there's one thing I'm good at, it's killing plants; I know it's nothing to brag about.. but I am 99% sure that I'm not alone. I have always wondered whether it is possible for green fingers to run in the family, as my grandparents have the most beautiful garden, but sadly this year has proven that it is most certainly not the case. Throughout 2016 it is with great sadness that we have had to say goodbye to many household names, alongside these I have lost many-a-houseplant; it is safe to say that my fingers are far from green. However in spite of this, when placing one of my 'last minute' prezzie orders on the Urban Outfitters site, I came across this book and decided that it would be a serious investment. Bring The Outside In is sure to provide any novice like myself, with some much needed assistance.

I have lost track of the amount of times that I have Googled 'how to do this' or 'how to do that', but this little book has become my houseplant bible. From cacti to terrariums, it contains countless nuggets of information that make the process of keeping things alive much simpler. There's something that makes me feel much happier when there's just a pop of life in the room.. I love the way that they can completely transform an empty corner and the air of freshness that they give off; if I've learnt nothing else this year, it's that filling your home with plants is A-OK!

When it comes to looking after your plants, I've found that to some extent that it's about trial and error; I've used my initiative in some scenarios and found that my green babies have lived for what feels like forever, where as in some cases my decisions have proven less than effective. I would recommend getting your hands on a little book like the one mentioned above, however if you want to save your pennies, there are a lot of apps out there that provide equally as much information! How do you feel about houseplants?

I am making it my goal for 2017 to grow my collection and keep those babies blooming.

  1. I have one houseplant that I inherited when my dad passed away. It is a jade plant (or money tree) I've even managed to pass cuttings on to friends! It's the only plant I have and it is about 30 years old. I feel under so much pressure to keep it alive, luckily it is fairly easy going!
