Dealing With Blogger Events

Now if you're a blogger, and you haven't heard of Bloggers Festival.. where the heck have you been!? The annual event run by the ever so talented Scarlett London is one that is not to be missed. Created with the premise of encouraging bloggers to interact with one another (plus a selection of both upcoming and well established brands) in a less formal environment, I can assure you that it is the perfect place to start if you're new to events.

Having spent several weeks pre Bloggers Festival checking out the posts of those who had attended previous years, I was still a little unsure as to what to expect. Living in a small town in Somerset, there are very few bloggers (that I know of!) meaning that I have never really had the opportunity to attend an event and socialise with people with the same hobbies as myself.. I was going in blind. As you can imagine, the thought of hopping on a train for a 3 hour journey to London alone was very daunting, but I knew that if I didn't push myself to do it at the time, when would I?

Upon arrival I was terrified, but after a mere 10 minutes I was greeted by the lovely Pippa who I had been chatting to on Twitter prior to the event- she made me feel instantly at ease, but surprisingly a heck of a lot more confident too, she's a pro! Check out her blog here. One of my biggest first-event fears was that everybody would know each other, but I lost count of the amount of people who told me it was their first event too, and they had the same worry as me! I've put together a few top tips for keeping your cool when attending your first blogging event, in hope that I will help some people in the same situation as I was:

Interact With Bloggers Via Social Media
I'm not sure whether this is something that happens before all events, but #BloggersFestival began trending on Twitter a few days prior meaning that everybody who was attending could get involved; I would definitely recommend doing this, as I got talking to so many lovely ladies that I may not have approached otherwise- so get tweeting!

Create A Business Card
Business card/blogger card, you catch my drift! This is something that I didn't even consider, but found that so many other people had been clever enough to think of.. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, but something that represents your style and gives a brief overview of what you're all about will do the trick; and be sure to include all of your social media handles too! A card is something personal that you can hand out to both brands and fellow bloggers so you're not forgotten (whoops).

Plan Your Outfit The Day Before
Have you ever heard of the phrase 'dress for success'? Well, it's a thing! If you want to give off a certain impression, instil that in what you wear. Don't forget to dress in something that you feel both comfortable and confident in, because if you feel fab about yourself, you are more likely to want to approach others and strike up a conversation. I find that by planning my outfit the day before, it gives me one less thing to worry about on the day- I don't give myself the option of changing it last minute unless there's a serious malfunction!

Find Your Happy Place
I'm sure this is completely unnecessary, but before attending my first event I made sure that I knew a bit about my surroundings, just incase I needed to make a quick exit- note, I  did not! If you find yourself getting stressed in unfamiliar places, it is a good idea to have somewhere in mind that you can go if things get a little bit much.

I hope that these tips will help when preparing for your first blogging event; I can assure you that it's not as bad as you may think- I'm even looking at booking a place for one as we speak! I want to thank Scarlett and her little helpers for making Bloggers Festival so great; and thank you to all of the brands that attended and left me with achey shoulders for several days after! Brands included Jewellery Box, 7th Heaven (which totally took me back to my teens!), Natural World Hair and Friction Free Shaving.
