WINTER SKIN: SORTED

It's the time of year when all I need to do is step outside and my skin feels under pressure; the harsh winds and the cold, wet air leaves my skin feeling tight and in need of some TLC! There are lots of things that you can do to stop your skin from suffering this autumn/winter, so I've put together a few of my favourite tips and tricks in hope that you can make the transition to glowing winter skin!

Beauty Sleep. It ain't no myth! Sleep has been proven to 'heal'; whether it's your muscles or your skin, resting gives your body time to recover. A lack of sleep sends your body into panic mode, then leading to the emerging of spots, so it's super important that you get those eight hours, if not more- who doesn't love tucking up in these chilly months!?
Moisturise! I can't stress this enough; no matter what time of year it is, it's super important. If you fail to do so, your skin is likely to produce more oils to compensate then resulting in greater problems- which nobody has time for! Although it is tempting to feel the need to use harsher moisturisers during the colder months, stick to something light and airy that will allow your skin to breathe; I have been using Simple Light Moisturiser for the past few years and can't recommend it enough. If you do feel the need to use something a little more nourishing, they do a 'more hydrating' version.

Turn Down the Heat. When the weather is nasty and it's like an ice block inside and out, it can be tempting to turn up your shower a little higher than usual. But although it may seem like a good idea at the time, too long spent in a steamy shower can lead to dry and flaky skin. Keep the temperature 'warm' and make sure you moisturise once you're done!
Keep things clean. It may sound like a funny one, but try to change your pillow case every 2-3 days. The oils from both of your hair and face transfer to the fabric, then rubbing back onto your skin whilst you sleep.
Hydrate! If you read my post about staying healthy at work, you will know just how strongly I feel about this one. Not only does it make you feel better on the inside, but by drinking at least 2 litres of water a day it will help to flush out anything nasty in your body then leaving your skin glowing! I know it can be a challenge to drink cold water during winter, so you why not swap your glass for a mug of herbal tea?

As the winter months draw in, and Christmas is getting closer (did I hear you say 16 days!?) it's so easy to get stuck in a rut of getting home from work, snuggling up and eating foods that aren't necessarily as good for you as they taste. I'm trying to swap sweet treats for a healthier option until the 'big day' is a bit nearer so I'm ready for the Christmas binge- roll on those elasticated waist bands! Why not do it with me?
